making money from the hobby

Since i got back from japan i have been thinking about turning this (sewing) into a money making hobby a lot. i was very inspired with mai of okinokiyo who sacrified her high paying job to be a WAHM. i have the skills ,(well not much, but i can sew garments so, it is something isnt it? lol) but i really dont have the courage to start.

Then , Alhamdulillah, Mai offered me to help her to sew some hats and i got paid for it! finally im making money from my hobby, its not much compared to your monthly pay that you get from working in the office, but i value every single ringgit and I really treasure the time that i spent making them. im now sewing some dresses for her and im loving it. I honestly think this is a good start for me and i hope i can open orders of my own brand soon but maybe not now. yet. im still working on some products (dunno when its possible to be revealed tho hahaha) pls pray for me ok. 

btw these are some of the projects that ive work on this past couple months

• sucking pads ordered by a twitter friend to be used on her new ergo

• car litter bag for my besties, the lining is made from laminated cotton so you can just wipe it clean! i wish i made one for my car. haiyah.

• a super size jumbo bean bag from scratch measuring 180cmx150cm (!) for myself but got hogged by the diva in the house. the comfiest thing ever! i had the beans imported all the way from ipoh thanks to Liz of Snuggbaby! lol the power of twittervalley.

the most cruciating part of the project was my decision to sew appliques on the jumbo bean bag cover, which gave me severe headaches for not having enuff sleep finishing it. pheww im sooo glad its done. and i will not do that again, EVER!

repurpose: baby roomwear

man im so good at this! haha.
i found some adults baju tido at carrefour that cost only RM5 each so i bought some not for me but to be turned into ayra’s  roomwear heheh cheapskate LOL. its soo much fun doing the repurpose projects coz its easy and i dont need to bentang kain besar2 n cut, plus u can do so many things with just a little time considering u can re-use the hem  n everything. easy peasy!
so here are some of the pictures. sorry i didnt take the pic of the whole process, but judging by this photos, i think u can already get the picture of the whole idea.

repurpose: baby wide leg capri pants

i made a khakis like pants for Ayra by repuposing my prev company's uniform. n it turned out soo cool . unfortunatly the length of the pants was a wee bit unbalance. haha gonna fix it later.

little red dress

dress for baby tasneem.
baby tasneem turned 2 couple weeks back, n nannoor held a party n invited us. so i decided to sew her DD a little flowery n dotty red dress a bday gift, it only take me one night to cut n sew everything up, but i actually messed up the neck part which i had wrongly cut but somehow i managed to fix it coz i was too sleepy to cut the part all over again.
i made a lill ruffle at the shoulder , and add some lace so it can be tied at the back. i bought the lace at a 100yen shop in japan b4 i got back without knowing what to do with it  , but im glad that the finally find its purpose .
i always buy things i dont have any plan  to use but in the end i use it anyway, so thats why  i think anything about sewing is a worth investment, seriously hehe.i guess hubs understand this very much.
btw i use the leftover fabric to make the flower applique which i love soo soo much about this dress. plannig to to make one for ayra but preferably to be worn once she can walk. long dress and a  crawling  baby just dont do well together if u know what i mean.

n of course we couldnt resist to ‘testdrive’ with our very own lil model , hehe

maisarahs itti bitti

finally after one sleepless night and a few extra hours, i have completely sewn the dress! i used the itti bitti dress pattern for the body, and create the skirt myself i didnt wanted for the skirt to be so ‘kembang’ so i did 2 ruffles instead of 3, and the 2nd layer of the skirt part is sewn together with the 3rd layer along the top edge.

im topstitch maniac , so i topstitched all along the body edge and also the hems to create a crispier finishing.

im all impressed by myself with the result. n hubs too “sugoi ne mommy, sugoii ne” all over. cant wait to make more dresses n garments in the future!

body pattern

i dug a bunch of my old clothes from Japan which i dont wear anymore n found some t-shirts from uniqlo which i really really love for the comfy knit fabric.

i took one border shirt that was quite old (bought on my 1st year) there were holes here n there, i dont think ill be wearing it again. so i decided to use the body parts to make ayra a pair of room pants.

this is the easiest project ive ever made, i took barely 10 minutes to finish it. you can find the tutorial all over the internet. but unfortunately i cut the waist part a bit short , they became a low-rise pants LOL. maybe ill alter them later.

little red dress

i bought this cheap cotton fabric from kamdar wayy back when i was pregnant with you

i wanted to make the dress with a much much prettier patterned cotton, but too afraid if i waste the expensive fabric so i settled with this.but it turned out i did fine. !:D

i cut the the fabric according to a pattern i got from a japanese sewing book couple months back with u next to me trying to eat the pieces. owh btw i hate tracing. it kills me.

just finished the dress tonight, will send the dress to make buttonhol on the backside tomorrow.

ill add some embellishments (applique or embroidery or ur name maybe) when i have the time.

btw pls ignore the unmatching white thread, i only have one bobbin, n was too lazy to change to red one. (hoho mmg tak leh buat jual ini macam)

sorry for the bad color combination . but theyre purposely made to match her baju raya so that explain the same top fabric.

i should have lined the single fleece sole with other fabric to make it sturdier tho. takpe , next attemptla pulak.

Yeap, u read me right, i sew! for the first time in my life i sew a garment! fuh kagummm. ini betul2 yareba dekiru.

i followed the exact tutorial from here , thank you soo much maya for the tutorial. really super easy to understand for a beginner like me! and its not that hard you know . if you think u can , u CAN!

i havent sew the sarong yet, but the kurung is definitely impressive! forget the uncountable jahit-bukakbalik-jahit attempts but ishh isshh kagum sungguh with my own work. , i carry around to my moms house just to show off. HAHA wahh i can imagine now moree n moreee dressess to be made in the future!
